ESP is more than just desktop search, it is instant access to the files you need. With as few as 3 keystrokes, you can have the open, printed, attached to an e-mail, or more. ESP will collect usage data and prioritize the locations, file types, and files that you use the most, and will put them on the top of the list.

Let's say you work in a law office. You need to bring up a form. Press the hotkey (F11 by default), start typing the name of the form. As you type, ESP will populate a list of possible matches. When the file you want is at the top of the list, press enter, and it opens. Next time that form will be nearer to the top of the possible matches. The more you access the form, the closer to the first match it will be. Soon you can just type the first letter and it will be selected.

This is a tool created by software engineers to streamline the actions that software engineers need to take on files. If you add the codebase you are working on to the Managed Folders, now you can assign actions to function keys such as checking out a file from version control, opening a version tree, or opening the file in a particular application.
