This Data Acquisition Board (DAQ) converts standard serial I/O (Input/Output) from a PC into a 20 pin parallel I/O bus-- it makes connecting your project to any computer easy and affordable. Each of the 20 I/O pins is individually configurable as an input or an output. You can read the state of each pin (high or low), or change the state if it’s configured as an output, up to 1000 times per second. 5 of the pins can now be be configured as analog inputs!

You can communicate with the board using binary commands, or text commands. The text commands are ideal for use with MS HyperTerminal.

It is our hope to provide you with every thing you need to build this DAQ from scratch, including assembly instructions, schematic, PCB board layout, parts placement diagram, parts list, and microprocessor program ( .asm file and .hex file).

There is a comprehensive user’s manual that fully documents the functionality of the DAQ, including all the commands. The text commands are documented in the supplemental user’s manual.

We also provide a DAQ utility program to help you test your completed board and learn to use it. When you install the DAQ utility program, you will also be installing a driver that can greatly simplify the programming of your DAQ. (NOTE: the driver is not necessary, however it does take care of a lot of the details so you can concentrate on other aspects of your program.)

Finally, we provide numerous programming examples to help you learn how to use the serial ports on your computer, as well as learn to use your DAQ.
